GSN: Weekend Schedule Change
Weekends, effective November 28th, changes listed only:
9:00 am Hollywood Squares (Bergeron, SYN 1998-2004; replaces Match Game (SYN 1979-82))
9:30 am Whammy! (GSN 2002-03; replaces Password Plus (NBC 1979-82))
10:00 AM: Chain Reaction (GSN 2006; replaces Super Password (NBC 1984-89))
10:30 AM: Family Feud (O'Hurley, 2006-present; replaces Dawson Feud)
11:00 AM: Newlywed Game (with Carnie Wilson, replaces Whammy!)
11:30 AM: Catch 21 (replaces Chain Reaction)
12:00 PM: 1 vs. 100 (replaces Meredith‘s Millionaire & Bergeron’s Squares)
1:00 PM: Deal or No Deal (replaces 1 vs. 100)
3:00 AM: Catch 21 (replaces Dawson Feud (SYN 1977-85))
3:30 AM: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (Vieira, 2002-present, replaces Password (CBS 1962-67))
Blech. So much blech. What an awful schedule. Seriously. I love Hollywood Squares and Meredith’s Millionaire, but there’s no redeemable qualities with these changes at all. None whatsoever. They couldn’t get a couple shows out of the vault?
Whammy! continues to be run into the ground. Deal or No Deal will be seen *FIVE* times on Saturday. And knowing now much it airs on the weekdays… this is just way too much of one show. And I thought the Thanksgiving marathon was overkill. You know, I remember there was a time period from about 4 years ago to now, there’d be a few schedule changes where there’d be something that would happen that I wouldn’t like, but in spite of the negative feelings, there much more of the schedule’s changes would be positive and I’d find myself enjoying more of the channel. This is not the case anymore. Right now there’s 3, if not 4 shows that I can sit down and enjoy on a daily basis. No variety is really to be had at all now. We have the same shows with limited runs seen over and over again. The only Goodson-Todman classics left now are Match Game, Family Feud, and the original Password. It makes me dread the possibilities of future weekday schedules.
Hell, even with the reality garbage that came along, there were more classics than this in 2004.

GSN: November Schedule Changes
More bad scheduling by the folks at GSN. Starting November 7th, the Super Password block at 11 am will be gone and in its place will be the return of Love Connection to the schedule and Hollywood Squares. Super Password will be on weekends only.
This reminds me of what SOAPnet did with Ryan’s Hope about 2 years ago. You DO NOT take a show with over 1,000 episodes and put it on weekends only. You DO NOT do that. Period.
I love Bergeron Squares, I really do, it’s my favorite version of the show. But I’ve actually grown comfortable with the late night airing, and I really don’t like the idea of Super Password being sacrificed for it. And knowing the current routine, it won’t be different episodes at all. I’ll bet it’ll just be another airing of the same episode. I would have removed one half of the hour, but instead putting Password Plus in the slot… another show that had no reason to be removed from the weekday schedule. And Love Connection is not a game show. I have nothing personal against the show, but it does not belong on this network.
On a miscellany note, to correct a previous entry: the one good thing I noticed though; it looks as though that promo for the Catch 21/Newlywed Game was a bit off; there won’t be all celeb shows all season. There’s at least one good decision made most recently. But still, it’s continuing to get to the point where I have little to enjoy with GSN now. Just way too little variety. I’ve enjoyed some things, but too many scheduling decisions have been either mediocre or just plain bad and have outshined any good.

Marshall Hollywood Squares on Hulu
Hulu.com has just added another classic show, the syndicated version of Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall! The short-lived 1968 nighttime show is there as well.
I’ll admit this is not my favorite version of the show; I prefer Tom Bergeron’s. But the Marshall era had a really nice array of stars, like Isabel Sanford, Redd Foxx, Elizabeth Montgomery, Eva Gabor, Suzanne Pleshette, Ed Asner… I could go on and on. And of course, who could forget Paul Lynde! It makes me wish all the more that we could see it on GSN sometime again.
And if you’re like me, you’ll probably really enjoy the fact that there are no annoying pop-ups on the bottom of the screen, no time compression, and the credits (and the NBC logo where appropriate) are left completely intact and split screen free!

GSN: More Schedule Changes
There are apparently more schedule changes coming starting May 18th:
CHANGES LISTED ONLY:
10:30 am $25,000 Pyramid (CBS 1982-88, replaces Family Feud (Combs syndie, 1998-94))
11:00 am Bingo America (replaces Let’s Make A Deal (syndie 1971-77))
11:30 am Whammy! (GSN, 2002-03, replaces $25,000 Pyramid (CBS 1982-88))
These seem to contradict with some of the ones that are taking place in June.
I love The $25,000 Pyramid… it’s one of the things acquired lately on GSN along with $100,000 Pyramid, original Password, and Hollywood Squares that I enjoy. The show following Super Password at 10 doesn’t sound bad. But it is so typical that they pull the version of Feud that’s airing the least out of all of them. I mean we can’t sacrifice ONE lousy Karn airing? Not one? Why can’t they show this version from start to finish? And boo to Let’s Make a Deal leaving earlier than intended; at least on weekdays. Bingo America taking its place? Blah. Whammy! is now scheduled to move to 11:30 am. Oh joy. Now I REALLY can’t wait to find the remote and turn it to Price.
This is looking more and more like Dark Period 3.0...

GSN: More About The March Schedule Change
More details have come about March 30th’s schedule change thanks to the PDF files at Buzzer, and wow, I could not be more excited!
The $25,000 Pyramid episodes will be 1985-86, new to GSN and haven’t been run in well over a decade since USA had game shows as apart of its schedule. I looked at the episode guide and there are some really interesting and fun celebs. Markie Post, Nipsey Russell, Melody Thomas-Scott, Bill Cullen, Florence Henderson, and even Bronson Pinchot. And there are some pretty memorable moments; the 1968 Chevrolet Chevette blooper, and Tom Poston and his contestant partner getting $0 in the winner’s circle (apparently contrary to popular belief is not the first time that occurred, but still, can’t wait to see it in even better quality). Can’t wait! I’ve always preferred daytime Pyramid, and while I was hoping for the earlier episodes, this is still a great surprise and I’m ever so excited about it! Good job, GSN!
The $100,000 Pyramid episodes are from season 3. I’m actually a tad disappointed because I was hoping for season 1, but still, this season in particular hasn’t been seen on GSN in quite a while, and I know many people at this point would rather see this than season 2, which first resurfaced back in ‘05.
Hollywood Squares episodes are all Bergeron, from season 1, which apparently haven’t been seen on GSN in years. I am really eager about this too, as I love this version of the show and I haven’t seen much of the early years of the show since they originally aired. This will always be my favorite version of the show. Tom and the gang had me rolling from start to finish.
Password in the overnight are daytime color episodes from 1966-67, which haven‘t been seen since 2002. I’ve always wanted to see more of this era of the show! However, Super Password on the weekends starts from the beginning. Eh, not too thrilled about this. I guess another opportunity to catch any episodes that may have been missed.
Chain Reaction on the weekends will still be Lane's. Blah.
I’ve never had GSN when they showed any of color Password, first season Bergeron Squares, or $25,000 Pyramid on a regular basis. I’m still disappointed that Press Your Luck, Card Sharks, and the black and white hour are leaving, but these latest acquisitions from Sony make for some GREAT consolation. Only less than 3 weeks away!
